Rice Terraces in Hungduan, Ifugao

Did you know that the Rice Terraces in Hungduan, Ifugao are included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site list for Cultural Landscape?

Frankly, I do not know the benefit if the site is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. What I do know is that the Hungduan Rice Terraces is on my list as my favorite scenic spots in the country and I really want to preserve it the way it is.

Don’t believe me that Hungduan Rice Terraces are awesome? Let me show you what they look like.

Hapao Rice Terraces

Out of all the Hungduan Rice Terraces the ones in Hapao are the most famous as many travellers could see it’s beauty by just going to the view deck located on the road in Hapao. But there’s a better way to see Hapao Rice Terraces and that is to walk on it by going to the Bogyah Hot Spring.

Nungulunan Rice Terraces

Also, one of the easiest to see Rice Terraces in the municipality as one can view its magnificence by the road. Rice Terraces that are made on a valley with a river in between. One can see an unobstructed view from the road as its view deck was washed away by a land slide.

Its located near beside Hapao. Walking distance from the viewing deck of Hapao Rice Terraces.

Dakkitan Rice Terraces

The road going to the Poblacion from Hapao will pass by this scenic Rice Terraces. The road would actually pass through the rice terraces. Somehow the irrigation system leaks to the road so a caution when passing through the slippery road is a must.

Bacung Spider Web Terraces

Up until now, I still could not figure out why they call this Spider Web Terraces. I’ve tried looking at it from Google Maps but I could not find a single hint of spider web. But if I let my imagination run wild, I could picture a big spider from the contours of the landscape with its legs made from the pilapil of the rice terraces.

A closer look would be good to see Bacung Spider Web Terraces.

One will pass by the view deck of Bacung Spider Web Terraces if you’re going to Balentimol Falls.

Kinga Rice Terraces

This is the farthest Rice Terraces I’ve seen in Hungduan. If I did not go to the Enchanted Native House of Sitio Awa I would not be able to see this picturesque rice terraces.

Unknown Rice Terraces

Here’s one of my favorites but I do not know the name of the Rice Terraces. I like how a lump of land is situated inside one the rice paddies. I even thought that it was a huge rock on my first time in Hungduan.

The pictures can only make you see the things that I’ve seen, it is a totally different experience when you are personally there feeling the hot rays of the sun while the cool air blows on your skin, standing beside a cliff just to see the majestic rice terraces of Hungduan, Ifugao.

I enjoyed it. I hope you do too.

Author’s idea while writing: I can imagine that rice terraces are like real life topographic maps.

Let’s make an effort to preserve Hungduan, Ifugao as enchanting as I have experienced it.

Keep your trash and throw it on proper disposal bins.
Respect the locals.
Keep the noise low as not to disturb locals and other travellers.
Be mindful of others.
Do not vandalize.
And most of all, be contented with the simple life they have. What happens in the city should stay in the city.
To trip organizers, whether personal or professional, you are responsible to educate the people you are with about responsible travelling and encourage them to practice it before going to any destination.

Let us not change Hungduan, let it change us.
